SABAH SUHAKAM RECEIVED 153 COMPLAINTS ON LAND ISSUE LAST YEAR

Sabah Suhakam received 153 complaints on land issue last year
KOTA KINABALU May 11, 2012: The Sabah chapter of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) received 250 complaints last year, mostly related to land issues.
According to the 2011 Suhakam Annual Report issued today, the commission resolved 45 cases while the rest are under investigation.
Land issues — the largest number of cases received by Sabah Suhakam — stand at 153, followed by problems involving illegal migrant workers (29), citizenship (15) and various other cases.
The report also stated the commission received four memorandi during the period. They included memorandi on land, protest against communal grants and detention under the Internal Security Act 1960.
On the forum and training of the Native Court legislative system, the commission welcomed the RM30 million allocation to Sabah for its infrastructure and administration at four State Native Courts and the establishment of the State Native Court Training Institute.
